About

Hello, I’m James, the person behind Kairos Technologies.

Kairos started as a personal project of mine alongside my primary IT career. Technology has always been something I’ve enjoyed working with, but more than that, I’ve always enjoyed helping people solve the problems that come with it.

A big part of why I started this project comes from my own experience when I was younger and just started learning about computers. Building my own PC, troubleshooting issues, experimenting and often breaking things, I often wished there had been someone knowledgeable I could simply call for honest advice.

Most of the time the options were limited. Computer shops would ask you to bring the machine in for a paid diagnosis before offering any guidance. Manufacturers were focused on selling products and services. And it was often difficult to find someone willing to just listen to your tech problems, explain things clearly, help you understand what’s actually going on, and guide you toward the best solution moving forward.

That experience stuck with me.

Kairos exists largely because I want to be the person I wish I had access to back then — someone knowledgeable, approachable, and willing to help people make sense of their technology without pressure or unnecessary complexity.

My Approach

When I work on someone’s technology, I try to look beyond the immediate issue.

A slow computer or unreliable network is usually just a symptom of something deeper — outdated configurations, missing backups, security risks, or systems that were never set up properly in the first place.

I tend to approach these situations with a systems mindset. Even in small home environments, I consider how everything fits together: how devices are configured, how data is protected, and how the system will behave over time.

My goal isn’t just to fix a single problem and leave. I try to leave the system itself in a cleaner, more stable state than I found it — with clearer structure, sensible defaults, and fewer opportunities for things to go wrong later.

Why I Do This

Running Kairos also keeps me engaged with the hands-on side of technology.

Working directly with people in real-world situations keeps my skills sharp and constantly exposes me to new challenges. At the same time, it gives me the opportunity to help individuals and families who simply want their technology to work the way it should.

Technology should make life easier, not more frustrating. Helping people reach that point is what makes this work meaningful to me.

A bit of background

I’m a graduate of BCIT’s Computer Systems Technology program, with seven years of experience in electronics manufacturing. My background includes electronics assembly, team leadership, circuit analysis, component-level board repair, hardware validation, and first-line IT support.

Certifications
  • CompTIA A+
  • Microsoft: AZ-900, AI-900, DP-900, SC-900
What I’m not

I’m not a computer shop or a managed service provider (MSP). I focus exclusively on residential support, not business IT.

I also won’t recommend hardware, software, or services you don’t actually need, and if something is better handled by another provider, I’ll tell you directly.
